The Divas triumphed over Lynwood United thanks to a late goal from Maisie Hughes that secured all three points for the first time in season 2024.
On a glorious day for football, it was the Divas with all the early pressure, troubling Lynwood’s defense time and again. Debutant Linda Plower fired the Divas up before a dubious offside decision overruled the goal.
It was utility Sharna Bevan who fired home a low strike to put the Divas ahead 1 – 0 in the 23rd minute. The goal seemed to spark Lynwood to life as they started to show some strong counter attacking form. Again and again Lynwood drove forward only to be repelled by the back paring of Martina Conway-Mortimer and Annie Petta.
If it wasn’t the Divas center backs that Lynwood were struggling with it was the stopping power of Grace Woods who had a great second outing between the posts.
Lynwood finally broke through in the dying embers of the first half when Penelope Ensor broke away from the defense before slotting one past Woods in injury time drawing level 1-1.
The second half played out in enthralling fashion as both teams took turns at counter attacking. The Lynwood keeper made a string of strong saves keeping her team in the game.
Georgie Gwinnutt squandered a chance to ice the game skillfully dribbling past several defenders and beating the keeper before spurning a her shot past the post and left a goal mouth that was wide open.
The miss was almost fatal as Lynwood won a free kick in the box form a Divas back pass that was handled by Woods. Danger player Laura Chadwick sent her shot just wide giving Baldivis a reprieve.
The reprieve was well received as Maisie let loose a long range strike in the 87th minute to keep all three points at Baldivis reserve. The Divas running out winners 2 – 1.
